Team Na Keiki Ha'aheo

(Students with Pride)

Team Na Keiki Ha'aheo spent 6 weeks inquiring into aspects of their Kalihi Valley heritage which make them proud.

This is a view from the bottom of Kalihi Valley, at the Sand Island Wastewater Treatment Facility. The students from our team visited many businesses which support the economy of our Valley.

Jordan Moananu and many of the other students can't stand the dead rat smell at the Sand Island Waste Water Treatment Facility.

Luckily, they could relax and breathe the fresh air at the Zen Buddhist Dojo, in the back of Kalihi Valley. A Dojo is a training place to study the Dao, or way of life. The statue you see here is worshiped for healing. Some say that if you tell the statue your prayer, it will cure your illness.

Religion plays an important part of life for many people in Kalihi Valley. Some students from Team Na Keiki Ha'aheo researched the different churches and religions which impacted their community.
